New Practice Set: Words in Context Timed Practice Set

Hi everyone,

A new practice set is now available: WIC Practice Set 1. This is actually not the first timed practice set dedicated entirely to Words in Context questions, but I have promoted it to first position because it features the Bluebook-style format. (The other practice sets are still available and will soon be upgraded to this format.

This set features 5 challenging questions timed at 7 minutes and Bluebook-style features such as side-by-side passage and question layout, an answer elimination tool, a question navigator, a countdown timer, and a detailed score report after submission.

This set is designed to be completed after you've worked through the Words in Context instructional units. The questions are at the upper end of the difficulty range, so take your time, identify the context clues in each passage, and apply the strategies from the unit before selecting your answer.

As always, read the answer explanations for every question after you submit — including the ones you got right. You can expand any question on the results page to view its full explanation.

You'll find WIC Practice Set 1 in the Words in Context section of both Score Accelerator and the self-paced course. Look for Unit 4.3: Walker Prep Words in Context Timed Practice Set 1.

New Practice Set: Reading & Writing Variety Pack 2 — Now in Digital SAT Format

Hi everyone,

Variety Pack 2 is now available in both Walker Prep's SAT Reading & Writing Mastery self-paced course and the Score Accelerator program. This set of SAT Reading & Writing mock questions comes with a significant upgrade to how practice sets are delivered.

Starting with this set, all Walker Prep practice materials are presented in an interactive format that closely mirrors the College Board's Bluebook testing environment. Instead of the ClassMarker interface you're used to, you'll now work through questions in the same layout you'll see on test day:

  • Side-by-side passage and question panels — just like the real Digital SAT

  • Answer elimination tool — cross out choices as you narrow down, exactly as you would on Bluebook

  • Question navigator and Review Page — jump between questions and check your work before submitting

  • Countdown timer — enforced time limits that match real testing pressure

  • Detailed score report — performance breakdowns by question type, College Board domain, subject area, and difficulty level, followed by full strategy walkthroughs for every question

The set contains 5 questions across 5 different R&W question types at difficulty levels 3–5, with a 10-minute time limit. As always, read the answer explanations for every question after you submit — including the ones you got right.

Going forward, all new practice sets will use this format, and I'll be converting existing sets over as well.

You'll find Variety Pack 2 near the bottom of the course, in the Mock Tests and Variety Packs section - the second to last section, just above the Supplemental Resources section.

New Practice Set: SAT Command of Evidence Cause-and-Effect

A new set of SAT Reading & Writing practice questions — COE: Cause-and-Effect Practice Set 1 — has been added to both the SAT Reading & Writing Mastery course and the Score Accelerator program.

This set features 5 mock SAT Command of Evidence questions focused on cause-and-effect claims, ranging from straightforward to challenging. The items in the set are modeled on real SAT COE questions and feature common complicating factors like compound claims, causal chains, indirect reference, and "weaken" prompts. Two of the five questions include graphs.

Where to Find It

Navigate to Section 5 on Command of Evidence. The practice set is linked in Unit 5.7. Before doing the practice questions, make sure you're familiar with the COE Cause-and-Effect strategies taught in Unit 5.6.

After You Finish

Your results and detailed answer explanations for all questions will be automatically emailed to you. Every explanation walks through the full ICE Method (Identify, Convert, Eliminate) step by step, showing exactly how to convert a cause-and-effect claim into a comparison and apply the 3-Round Elimination Process. Read them all — even for questions you got right. The strategic breakdowns will sharpen your skills for test day.

Good luck!

New Practice Set: R&W Variety Pack 1 Now Available

A new timed practice set — Walker Prep SAT Reading & Writing Variety Pack 1 — has been added to both the SAT Reading & Writing Mastery course and the Score Accelerator program.

The set features 5 questions across 5 different common SAT Reading & Writing question types at difficulty levels 4–5. You'll have 10 minutes to complete it in one sitting — enough time to be deliberate about identifying question types and applying the right strategies, but not so much that you can coast.

Where to Find It

Navigate to the Walker Prep Mock Tests and Variety Packs section of your course. It's near the very bottom — second to last, just above Supplemental Materials.

After You Finish

Your results and detailed answer explanations for all five questions will be automatically emailed to you. Read the explanations for every question, including the ones you got right. They break down common traps, strategic patterns, and reasoning techniques that will pay off on test day.

Good luck!

New Practice Set Available: COE Comparison Questions (Unit 5.5)

Hi everyone,

A new practice set is now available in the course: Unit 5.5 — COE Comparison Practice Set 1. This is a timed set of 5 Command of Evidence: Comparison questions, one of the most frequently tested question types on the SAT Reading & Writing section.

This practice set is designed to be completed after studying Units 5.3 and 5.4, which cover the core strategies for these questions. Students, please make sure you've worked through both of those units before jumping in — the purpose of this set is to deliberately practice applying those specific techniques, and you'll get much more out of it with that preparation in place.

Instructions and the link to begin are in Unit 5.5. The set is worth 50 points, and you'll have 10 minutes. After you submit, you'll receive a full explanation for every question, walking through each step of the process.

Best,

Dave Walker - Founder, Walker Prep

Important: Score Accelerator Schedule for Test Week

Hey everyone,

Quick reminder of our schedule for the rest of test week:

• Thursday 3/12 — Bonus Session at 5:00pm PT / 8:00pm ET

• Friday 3/13 — Final Session at 4:00pm PT / 7:00pm ET (note the earlier time)

I have key example questions ready to go across Practice Tests 9, 10, and 11, reinforcing the strategies we've been working on throughout the course. But the main purpose of these last two sessions is YOU — I want to make sure your specific questions get addressed before Saturday.

So if you have a question about a particular SAT Reading & Writing question or about any aspect of R&W strategy, please submit it ahead of time. Submitting ahead of time is especially helpful if your question is about a specific item from a practice test other than OPTs 9, 10, or 11, since I'll need time to pull up the materials and prepare a thorough response.

A couple of ground rules on question submissions:

— Official SAT materials only (no third-party practice tests)

— Submit via Google Classroom or the Score Accelerator Lab

I'll be opening things up for live Q&A during both sessions as well, so don't worry if you think of something last minute. But the more you can get to me in advance, the better I can serve you.

This is your opportunity — take advantage of it. See you Thursday!

— Dave

New Practice Set: COE Direct Evidence (Unit 5.2)

A new practice set is now available in the course — Unit 5.2: COE Direct Evidence Practice Set 1. It's a timed set of 5 Command of Evidence questions with detailed answer explanations.

With the March 14th SAT just over a week away, this is a great opportunity to sharpen your approach to one of the most common — and most commonly missed — question types on the test. The questions are designed to reinforce the 5-step universal strategy from Unit 5.1, so make sure you've reviewed that unit before diving in.

The whole thing takes 10 minutes, and you'll receive your results and full answer explanations by email as soon as you finish. Even if you're feeling solid on COE questions, read through all the explanations — they cover strategic patterns and common traps that show up repeatedly on test day.

Don't sit on this one. A week is plenty of time to internalize these strategies, but only if you put in the reps now. Open up course unit 5.2 to get started!

How is the Reading & Writing Section of the SAT structured?

I understand there are different types of questions on the SAT Reading & Writing Section, such as Core Reading Questions, Command of Evidence (COE) type Questions, etc. Is there a structure that the test follows when it presents you with these different types of questions? Ex: 7 Core Reading questions and then 4 COE questions after that.
